HistoryIt was during the Great Depression that the founder of Cadillac Machinery Company, Inc., Harold Goldstein, began his career in the surplus equipment business. Working for his father, Charlie, at Machinery & Electric Motors on Lake Street in Chicago, he learned that hard work and dedication to customer service earn loyal and repeat customers. His career was interrupted by service in the U.S. Army, and in 1950, he started Cadillac Machinery. Our founder, Harold Goldstein, passed
away on August 26, 1997. He began working in the machine tool industry in
1935. Since then, his career was enhanced by service to his industry and
country. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and also worked
with the Office of Price Administration, developing regulations for controlling
prices and priorities for used machine tools. Later he was a key witness
before the Senate Finance Committee, where he gave testimony regarding the
investment tax credit laws pertaining to used machine tools. He was also
one of the founders of the Machinery Dealers National Association (MDNA),
and for ten years, he served as a member of its National Board of Directors.
In 1967-1968 he served as its national president and was a recipient of
the R. K. Vinson Award, which is presented in recognition of outstanding
contributions to the advancement of the used machinery industry. Michael Goldstein graduated from Michigan
State University with a degree in accounting and a minor in engineering.
After graduating, he worked for Steel Products Engineering Company (Speco)
in Springfield, Ohio, and Daldi & Matteucci (Demm) in Milan, Italy.
In 1964 he joined his father in business. From 1974 to 1984, he was director
and partner of Industrial Plants (UK) Corp. Ltd., a major industrial auctioneering
company in Europe. Michael Goldstein has also been an active member of the
Machinery Dealers National Association (MDNA). He was on the National Board
of Directors from 1976 to 1993 and was a member of the Executive Committee
from 1980 to 1993. He has held numerous positions, including president of
the MDNA Information Systems and publisher of the Locator of Used Machinery.
He headed the group that developed an electronic mail system, "SUPERMATE,"
for the used machine tool industry to provide a nationwide network for locating
second-hand machine tools. In 1985, MDNA presented him with the Distinguished
Service Award. Michael has served on the council of the European Association
of Machine Tool Merchants (EAMTM) since 1989. In 2003, Michael was honored
as a Fellow of EAMTM, organized in 1940, only the 19th person and only the
second non-European to have been given this award. Like his father, Michael
Goldstein has contributed to many areas of advancement in the industry.
In 1984 he realized the need for greater dissemination of technical information
for the gear industry. In response to this need, he co-founded Randall Publishing,
Inc., and began publishing the award-winning magazine, GEAR
TECHNOLOGY, the Journal of Gear Manufacturing, of which he is publisher
and editor-in-chief. Richard Goldstein studied engineering
and business administration at the University of Michigan, and in 1969 he
earned his master's degree in business administration at the University
of Chicago. His career began as a commercial loan officer at the American
National Bank of Chicago, where he was responsible for major real estate,
finance and manufacturing firms. In 1974, he joined Cadillac. He quickly
expanded the worldwide trading activities of the company. Along with his
father and brother, he founded Industrial Plants (UK) Corp. Ltd., a major
industrial auctioneering company in Europe. He has continued the family
tradition with his service to the industry. In 1993, he was appointed a
member of the national board of directors of the Machinery Dealers National
Association (MDNA) and continues an active role in that capacity today.
He is also co-founder and vice president of Randall Publishing, Inc., publisher
of GEAR TECHNOLOGY, the Journal of Gear Manufacturing. Bringing with him a worldwide background
in machine tool building and maintenance, Kash Chadha joined Cadillac Machinery
in 1978. Prior to joining Cadillac, he studied engineering at the Government
of India Technical School and served as a journeyman with the Ministry of
Defense, Bombay. From 1962 to 1965, he took specialized training in machine
tool building with companies such as Waldrich Coburg, Kapp, Deckel, Lasco
and Wotan in Germany; Mikron and Bondy S.A. in Switzerland; Csepel in Hungary;
and Ribon in Italy. After returning to India he worked for four years as
a plant engineer with Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company, Bombay, manufacturers
of machine tools, Mercedez Benz trucks and buses and P & H earthmoving
and farming machinery. From 1970 to 1978, he worked in Canada on the installation,
sales and service of Czechoslovakian gear hobbers and shapers and European
machine tools. He was also the lead man in the rebuilding of machine tools
at SKF Ball Bearing Company in Toronto for two years. He is an associate
member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a senior member
of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He speaks fluent German and has
a working knowledge of five other languages and seven Indian dialects.
